television game show host (1923- )
Some people have suggested that we have some young male models on the show. But I think that's a terrible idea. I don't want some young guy back here attracting all the attention. I want people looking at me.

I did it at just the right time. I was 83 years old, but I was doing the show as well as I had ever done it. And we were tops in the ratings. The show was a part of Americana. It was a huge success. And I thought I could go out on top. So, I wound it up that year. And I have not regretted it at all.

The most talked about single incident in the history of the show was a young lady seated out in the audience in a tube top. And her name was called to be a contestant. And she jumped to her feet. And she began jumping up and down and out they came. She came on down and they came on out on CBS.

I would not criticize Drew Carey. I would not criticize this show. I would not criticize CBS. I would not criticize FremantleMedia (which produces the show for the network) because I have a sizable royalty that I am paid every year this show is on, and it's going on for years. I would be an absolute fool. I hope this show stays on for years. As for Drew, he’s been charming and complimentary, and he had me on the show to plug my book Priceless Memories. He devoted half of the show to me! He's a charming man, and kind and gracious. To think that I would say anything derogatory about him is idiocy.

People ask me, "What do you miss most about Price is Right?" And I say, "The money." But that is not altogether true. I miss the people, too.

I did Truth or Consequences for eighteen years. I've done Price Is Right for thirty-five years. I did Miss USA and Miss Universe for twenty-one years. I did the Rose Parade for twenty-one years, and I did the Pillsbury Bake-Off for fifteen years. I did the Indianapolis 500 parade for twenty years. I'm a guy who's kept a job once he got it.

Since I've retired, I sometimes not only don't know what day it is, or what month it is, I have trouble remembering what year it is. I can remember when I was six years old exactly what was happening, and I can't remember what happened yesterday.

One of the reasons for the fast-moving and always changing nature of Price was the number of games we had in the rotation. We constantly developed new games. The audience loved the variety, and, of course, people picked out their favorite games and looked forward to seeing them on the program.

I was embarrassed ... because sexual harassment is such a miserable charge. And I told my brother one time, when I was going into another press conference, I said, this is humiliating. I have to go in there and talk about my sex life. He said, Barker, at your age, you should be grateful you have a sex life.

We also had beautiful models--beautiful women who displayed the prizes, demonstrated merchandise, and provided ample grace and beauty to the show. The models were extremely popular with our audience, and along with announcers Johnny Olson, Rod Roddy, and Rich Fields, they became a valuable part of our success.

Well, every year I think, should I sign for another year? And I do. And then should I sign for another year? And one year I think I'll probably say, no, I don't think I will. And people will say, well, you're going to be bored. Well, I'd like to find out what it feels like maybe to be bored.
